Glorifying God by working together to build healthy churches

Conflict Resolution

THE BCMB CONFERENCE presents

 General - orange peel

** Watch for Future Dates**

Churches sometimes make a mess out of non-sin conflict! They turn differences of opinion into a tug-o-war, totally missing the opportunities for growth and change that the conflict offers up.  Consider the example of a man and woman quarrelling over an orange.  When neither would give in it was decided to slice the orange in half.  The man took his half, ate the pulp, and threw away the peel.  The woman took her half, used the peel to make a cake, and threw away the pulp (Fisher, Patton, and Ury, Getting to Yes,  1991, 56).  What did the man and woman really do?  They wasted half an orange!

Seminar Highlights:

To what degree are you wasting conflict?  To what degree do you think you can do a better job of making non-sin conflict productive?  This seminar will achieve the following outcomes:

  • Reveal results of a survey on causes of, and responses to, local church conflict
  • Understand differences between positions and interests
  • Learn productive intervention methods for managining non-sin conflict
  • Nudge local churches to develop home-grown patterns for responding to conflict
